From Law to Business: Many Paths Beckon

Now more than ever, the fields of law and business interface with each other, and a legal education is an ideal springboard for those wanting to work in a variety of business-related careers. Some lawyers profiled here work at law firms that represent major corporations, while others are employed by the corporations themselves, as general counsels. A surprising number of Law School graduates have made full transitions from lawyer to banker, investor, or company CEO.

Regardless of which path they ultimately choose, more than three-fourths of Columbia Law School students begin their careers as law firm associates—a step that provides crucial experience whether the individual will spend a lifetime practicing law or make the leap to a business career.
