RECRUITING 1LS FOR SUMMER 2008

There are two options to recruit a 1L for a summer internship or summer associate position.

1L On-Campus Interview ("1L OCI") Program takes place from early February to early March. Interviewers per day can be scheduled on-campus and the program offers employers an opportunity to interview 1Ls chosen by our bidding/lottery system for summer positions. Employers Seeking Resumes. For employers interested hiring 1Ls but do not wish to interview on-campus, we provide the following services: Resume Collection and Resume Submission. For a Resume Collection Career Services will collect a group of student resumes. Requests for "Resume Collection" will be listed on our website. Student resumes will be sent by Career Services directly to employers. For Resume Submission students will be notified to mail materials directly to the requesting employer. Students must submit materials for either option Friday, March 10th, unless otherwise specificed. To register please contact Jen Fox at jennifer.fox@law.columbia.eduor 212-854-7383.

RECRUITING 2L SUMMER 2009 & 3L POSTGRADUATE POSITIONS

The Early Interview Program ("EIP") August 12- 13, 18- 20, 2008.  This is the largest of Columbia 's five annual recruitment ("OCI") programs. During EIP, which is located at a hotel in midtown Manhattan , employers interview 2Ls and 3Ls for summer associate and postgraduate positions. Interview schedules are coordinated by the Career Services Office through a procedure wherein interested students bid for each employer. A computer program schedules the highest of such bids until the employer's schedule is filled. Prescreening is not permitted, although employers may specify certain criteria such as technical degree(s), or particular language(s), as required. Employers receive all interested students' resumes (including those who could not be scheduled) a few days prior to the interview date. The Office makes every possible effort to accommodate employers' requests for specific dates and other special requests, especially when requiring coordination with other law schools' on-campus programs. Private and public sector employers seeking associates and interns, for summer and/or postgraduate openings, find Columbia 's on-campus interviewing efficient and cost effective. All employers (including law firms) with fewer than 20 attorneys, and public sector employers of any size, may participate free of administrative fees. Participation in these and other Columbia programs is arranged by Columbia for employers annually beginning in late January.

The Fall Interview Program- September 15-October 24, 2008.

Private and public sector employers interview 2nd and 3rd year students are afforded another opportunity to interview job applicants for summer associate and postgraduate positions. Schedules and arrangements, as detailed in the above EIP section, apply. Space availability and other criteria govern the location and date of the specific interview arrangements.
