Mission Statement

The Columbia Law School Information Technology (IT) Department provides stable & easy-to-use technology that supports the academic and administrative functions of the law school. The goal of the department is to provide support to all our patrons with cheerful readiness and promptness.  

The IT department is committed to offering service and support to all Columbia Law School students, faculty and staff members. The department's team of dedicated and hardworking professionals is here to support your legal research, teaching and administrative needs. The IT department offers a variety of technological services. Here's a brief listing of some of the main service offerings.

Supported Software
IT will install and configure the following software on Columbia Law School owned computers. IT consultants will do their best to answer all questions, fix errors and problems related to the software listed. The department will also keep the software up to date. If you require specific or specialized help with a program; which is not within our skill set or under our service umbrella, we can provide program vendor information or other resources.

Applications and software supported by departments other than IT
These applications are supported by another department (such as the library, in the case of Pegasus).  IT will only support network connectivity and Windows 2000/XP Pro based printer access for programs in this category.

Many of our users use programs that tie them in with Central University administration (e.g., FFE/CARR for the Business Office). IT will support telnet connectivity (or whatever other general service is required to access the application). Service from the Law-IT department is not available for these applications.

ADA & Medical Support Policy
The IT department will work closely with any member of the Law school community who needs specialized ADA or medically related software or hardware. The department will be responsible for the following issues regarding the request(s) and recommendations by  CLS students, staff & faculty member who are in need of ideas and/or help.
  • Search for software and hardware that meets the needs of  the CLS employee.
  • Arrange appointments with vendors to evaluate hardware and software for the needs of CLS staff or faculty who are in ADA status.
  • Install & configure computer(s), recommended by vendors.
  • Support software by contacting the vendor of specialized software.
Latest Updates for CLS coursewebs
IT will refresh the security certificate for coursewebs on November 11, 2005. Users will be prompted with a security alert popup message and required to click "Yes" before connecting to coursewebs until the security certificate is downloaded and installed as follows:
 
 
Supported Hardware.

The IT department supports the hardware of network terminals and all printers that were purchased, installed and configured by the IT dept

Unsupported Hardware
Any hardware which is not listed under the category of "Supported Hardware" is not supported, especially the following hardware:
* Personal printers (home and office)
* Personal laptops
* Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), i.e Palm Pilot , IpaQ, etc
